What are Powerbags ?
At Well-Fit we use Powerbags as a functional training system utilising soft weights from 5-35 kg. The Bag’s are a crossover between resistance training, medicine ball training and core stability. The PowerBag system incorporates all the benefits of gym based strength training with the flexibility of sport specific, rotational
and throwing drills giving the individual the overall fitness needed to get maximum results through cross training.
All major muscle groups can be conditioned for general strength
endurance progressing through to high intensity explosive power
movements.
At Well-Fit we use Powerbags indoor or out on any surface and in anyconditions. Powerbags provide an excellent tool for helping achieve your training
goals, whether you are a high level athlete or sports-person, a recreationalsports-person, in rehabilitation or an individual simply wishing to achieve an increased cross training strength and fitness.
Powerbag™ is already being used by the top sports-people in the world in their conditioning programs. They are using Powerbag™ as part of their cross training because of the superb and differing levels that are achievable through training with different weight Powerbags. Instability in Powerbags design and flexible handlesmakes them more difficult to lift than traditional weights. This instability within the design of Powerbag encourages deep core muscles to be activated during training which in turn makes lifting the bag more complex and encourages increased levels of skill and coordination during training.
The design of the bag also makes lifting harder, encouraging the participant to achieve quality movements with a lighter weight.
Likelihood of impact injuries are reduced due to the soft construction of the PowerBag and it’s short length also reduces potential for rotational injuries.
Functional training would suggest that to achieve maximum training benefits movements should be produced in planes that also reflect the specific demands of the sport or daily life. This means that all good cross training programmes should contain rotational and diagonal movements.
Powerbag can also be thrown which is not an option with metal weights, throwing and smash drills are also integral to any good cross training fitness workout.
