What is Pilates?
Pilates uses smooth
flowing movements that tone and stretch your body to increase strength and
flexibility in your muscles and joints. It utilises the power of the mind to
help with the exercises and to increase harmony between body and mind.
Pilates offers a
complete work out for the body that exercises not just the main muscle groups
but the weaker, less used muscles too, such as the core.
It enables you to
achieve a toned body, realise your fitness potential and improve your posture.
It is an exercise system that is open to all,
because anyone of any age and fitness level can do Pilates.
Pilates exercises target the key postural muscles building strength
from within creating a girdle of strength around the torso.
The core centre of the body (the lower back and abdomen) are supported
and strengthened, enabling the rest of the body to move freely.
Pilates exercises work on the body in a very effective way. Rather than
isolating particular muscle groups they work the body as a whole, equipping you
to perform everyday tasks more efficiently
Pilates exercises focuses on fewer repetitions and more precise
movements using correct control and form.
Pilates creates a strong, lean, balanced body which helps reduce the
risk of injury and helps to eliminate nagging aches and pains. Pilates
exercises will also enable you to become more supple and flexible.
